Home » Business Process, Home Computing, Network » The Chaos of Games Traffic
Oct, Mon 19th, 2009 Posted in : Business Process, Home Computing, Network By : Jeremy 0 Comments

Well, the Olympic games are just a few short months away now. In just 4 short months, the city will be teeming with athletes and visitors from around the world.

And love it or hate it, traffic will be horrendous. There are road closures coming, restrictions to driving on certain highways, special lanes, emergency and VIP vehicles, and heaven knows what else.

So how does a person get any work done, if they can’t even get to the office?

The answer, of course, is to telecommute. No traffic to deal with, no lane closures, and you can probably take a break every few minutes to see how the hockey games are progressing

There are a number of options for you to work from home, ranging in price, simplicity, and security. And really, it’s difficult to say “this is the right solution” because every situation and environment is different.

Some people like an application called LogMeIn, others like programs such as GoToMeeting. Personally, I’m a fan of Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s). Granted, VPN’s are the more expensive ones to get working properly, but they’re also the most secure. f you work in law, medicine, or another field that requires a level of data security, this is usually what I recommend.

The key is that you need to keep in mind that there’s always an option that will allow you to work from home, or wherever you happen to be. Even if you decide to leave town for the duration of the games, you can still get almost all our work done in some fashion or another.

So talk to your IT support people about your options, and make a plan to ensure that your work will keep on flowing during the inevitable chaos that will be traffic during the Olympics. Let the games begin, but don’t be inconvenienced by them
